The uniform worn by The
Mattatuck Drum Band is an authenic replica of the Connecticut Colonial
Private with blue coat, trimmed with red and large brass buttons,
breeches and vest, tri-cornered hat and black leather boots trimmed
with brown. Many of the instruments used by the Band are over 100
years old, the oldest drum having been made by Brown Bros. of Windsor,
Connecticut in 1812, and one of the oldest fifes having been made
in 1837.
The Band uses a drum beat of 90 beats per
minute. This style of drumming was introduced to the band by Samuel
Wilcox in 1830. |
